Pac-Man!
by Nathan James
The Idea of Pac-Man:
Pac-Man is a game where a little yellow circle with a mouth and eye (Pac-Man) eats berries and runs away from ghosts. The original Pac-Man game was a little Pac-Man that went down "pathways" eating dots and avoiding the ever-present ghosts. However, my version plays a little differently.
Getting Points:
In my version, Pac-Man exists on a 12x12 grid. You move Pac-Man by clicking (with a mouse) on one of the squares that are adjacent to Pac-Man. If there is a berry on that square, Pac-Man will eat the berry and score one point.
Ghosts:
After eight of Pac-Man's moves, four ghosts appear at random locations on the board. Every time Pac-Man moves, the ghosts move (one space) toward Pac-Man in an attempt to eat him. After another eight moves, the ghosts disappear, and the cycle starts again (Pac-Man moves freely for eight moves, then for eight moves ghosts chase Pac-Man, etc...).
What the game board looks like:
The button at the bottom is New. It resets the game
to the state is was in when you started the program. There is
also a label that tells you your current score at the bottom of
the window.
NOTE: During the game, the squares next to Pac-Man are not
actually grayed out. It is for demonstration purposes only.
How the Game Ends:
There are three ways to end the game. Case 1: If the goblin does manage to eat Pac-Man, the score is reduced by five points and the game ends. Case 2: If Pac-Man eats all the berries, the player beats the game. Case 3: The user clicks the new button at the bottom of the screen and restarts the program.
When the game ends (except for when you click on the new button) a dialog window appears that shows your final score. You can click on OK, and start a new game.
